Responsible for providing direct care to employees and other personnel who become ill and/or are injured on company property. Perform nursing assessments and assist physician with employment and surveillance examinations. Educate employees on health/wellness/safety related topics through individual discussions or group training. Communicate effectively with other peers for continuity of care; patients for injury care instruction; and other in personnel and safety with a need to know.
Administer necessary testing to employees (e.g. audiometry, spirometry, vision screening, etc.).
Maintain accurate and confidential medical records on computer and written as needed.
Communicate to providers, co-workers, patients, visitors and other departments in a professional manner.
Demonstrates proficiency at performing occupational health laboratory tests.
Accurately and promptly implement physicians’ orders.
Maintain a professional approach with confidence: remain resourceful and calm in emergencies; display concern and initiative.
Ability to apply professional nursing skills.
Work cooperatively and communicate with physicians, associates, patients, visitors and other departments in an appropriate manner using appropriate medical terminology.
Ability to properly use office and medical equipment such as: computer, spirometer, audiometer, fax machine, multi-stage copiers and telephones.
Maintain confidentiality, composure and professionalism at all times.
Express ideas clearly and concisely in written and verbal form and
Make independent nursing judgments.
Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgment, maintains responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.
Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served).
Documents patient care and patient response to nursing intervention in a clear, concise, legible manner, according to policy/procedure.
Supports and works effectively with multi-disciplinary health care team as needed to perform basic and complex nursing care techniques.
Practice reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DNV, OSHA, DOT, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding occupational medicine and healthcare.
Examine and assess acutely ill employees and determine urgency of care.
Assist in case management initiation and follow-up.
Perform other occupational health duties as assigned.
Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Preferred or Specialized
Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.
Graduate of accredited nursing program.
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Experience in clinical nursing preferred over hospital nursing experience.
Minimum of two (2) years nursing experience in occupational health, community health, ambulatory, critical care, emergency or orthopedic specialty areas preferred.
Registered Nurse (RN) with valid Iowa license in good standing. Current CPR Certification. Certification in Hearing conservation (CAOHC) NIOSH approved spirometry training.
Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN or COHN-s) preferred.
Certification in Hearing Conservation, Pulmonary Function Testing and Drug / Alcohol Testing required; will provide within first 6 months.
