GENERAL SUMMARY :

Assumes responsibility for maintaining Computed Tomography services at Iowa Heart Center. Assists in preparing the operating and capital budgets with guidance from the director. Performs general business activities, which support efficient, cost effective services for the Cardiovascular Testing Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Assumes situational responsibility, authority and accountability for the C.T. department.

  • Provides care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Develops and implements department objectives in collaboration with staff.

  • Counsels and monitors clinical performance of staff; assists in performance appraisals; promotes staff clinical development.

  • Works with manager to promote staff compliance of objectives and the implementation of procedures and policies.

  • Assists in conducting interviews for prospective employees; works with the Personnel Department in recruiting /hiring new personnel.

  • Monitors the physical environment of the departments.

  • Manages and coordinates the activities of the CT Department with other areas of the department, hospitals and clinics to ensure and maintain patient care.

  • Responsible for the management of work assignments, schedules, and orientation of the technologists.

  • Participates in the purchase/maintenance of equipment and contracts/meetings with vendors

  • Keeps abreast of current trends, new equipment/procedures and informs CT Manager and Clinical Director.

  • Maintains Quality Assurance in the CT Department.

  • Coordinates staffing, protocols, IAC accreditation and equipment management with off sites.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Participates in preparing the CT Department operating and capital budgets.

  • Assists in developing and maintaining competencies for all respective employees

  • Serves as a resource person to other health care professional and laypersons.

  • Makes calls to patients and families.

  • Clinical work.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

  • Successful completion of an accredited two-year Radiologic Technology program.

  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (R)

  • Registered Computed Tomography Technologist (CT)

  • Maintains active registry status in ARRT (Spell out)

  • Maintains current Iowa Permit to Practice

  • Participates in professional society (i.e., ISRT or SCD)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

  • Four years clinical CT experience required

  • Management experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare field preferred at time of hire.

  • 1 CEU per year in Radiation Safety/24 CEU’s every 2 years
