Big River Resources Temporary Financial Specialist Accountant in West Burlington, Iowa

Position Summary

The Financial Specialist Accountant will carry out the missions, visions, and values established by the Board of Directors by assisting in daily administrative functions especially in the accounts payable area.


  • Associate degree in accounting or equivalent experience; 3-5 years of accounts payable
  • A professional, who can manage and execute tasks, with minimum supervision
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment, effectively manage deadlines and work under pressure
  • Knowledge of business and accounting principles; inclusive of general ledger experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • The physical ability to use the telephone; strong customer service skills
  • A strong concentration on accuracy, efficiency, and continuous improvement
  • The ability to communicate and work effectively with teammates, vendors, and internal customers
  • Ability to effectively prioritize workloads and maintain an organized workspace
  • The ability to reliably commit to consistent attendance during specified work hours
  • Ability to:
  • Deal with eye strain from extended periods of time using the personal computer
  • Physical strain on the wrist from using the keyboard for extended periods
  • Performing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Perform tasks in Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, Publisher

Description of Duties

  • Assigned specific daily and monthly routine tasks
  • Accounts payable invoices in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains and/or Mapcon
  • Ensure all transactions are properly approved prior to payment
  • Verifying invoices for mathematical accuracy and correct account coding
  • Verify necessary month end accruals for invoices not yet received when the goods and/or services have already been received and other related month end close activities
  • Vendor statement reconciliations
  • Print, file and maintain all accounts payable documents and reports
  • Supports sales tax implementation; experience with IA, IL & WI preferable
  • Responsible for 1099's preparation, printing and submission for approval
  • Compliance with BRR's policy & procedures; maintaining accounts payable procedures
  • Backup Administrative Assistant; phones, mail and office support
  • Perform or assist in clerical duties such as faxing, filing, photocopying and collecting documents as assigned
  • Supports the financial team; including monthly closing as needed
  • Specialty projects; as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
