Position Purpose:

The EMS Education Coordinator acts as an EMS provider, educator, evaluator, consultant, and researcher in the development and maintenance of quality patient care and professional practice standards. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.

What you will Do:

  • Participates in the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of new ambulance colleague orientation.

  • Facilitates department continuing education. This may include actual instruction of prepared materials.

  • Identifies and implements practices and procedures that are research based to enhance patient outcomes.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of professional practice standards.

  • Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program.

  • Transports sick or injured patients by conducting initial and ongoing assessments, following established guidelines and protocols, evaluating treatment outcomes, and communicating with healthcare professionals.

  • Assists in the Emergency Room and ICU with assessments, vital signs, documentation, IV’s, airways and ECG’s.

  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.

Hours/Schedule:

1.0 FTE; 80 hours per bi-weekly pay period; may include weekend and holiday rotation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an Iowa Critical Care Paramedic Program.

  • Certified Iowa Paramedic or RN exemption. Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years ambulance experience preferred.

  • Valid IA Class C driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). BLS provider, ACLS, PALS, NRP required; PHTLS highly recommended.

  • Mandatory Reporter and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (NVCI) within 6 months of hire. EMS-Instructor endorsement preferred.

  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people; ability to convey a positive image and build positive relationships with others; ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to travel to all locations via personal vehicle.
