Title: Senior Foundry Materials Engineer - 70165

Opportunity

As a Senior Foundry Materials Engineer for the John Deere Foundry Waterloo, you will investigate and implement new and improve the current materials and processes used in metal casting. This position serves not only the John Deere Foundry Waterloo but also the Enterprise by assisting and auditing casting suppliers to John Deere as part of the Casting Center of Excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Research, test, and implement new materials and processes that will improve casting cost and quality.

  • Conduct casting special process audits of casting suppliers.

  • Assist supply management and design teams through casting failure analysis requests that are received by the Casting Center of Excellence

  • Develop, refine, and deliver training curriculums to be used to train casting buyers, Foundry employees, and casting designers.

  • Engage with University Metal Casting Programs to stay connected with research and provide feedback and assistance on curriculum development.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of experience in Process Control Monitoring & Improvement

  • 3 or more years of experience with the materials and processes used in, Green Sand Mold Making, Cold Box Core Making, Shot Blast Cleaning

  • 3 or more years of experience with the materials and processes used in a Coreless Induction, Cupola, or Arc melting process.

  • 3 or more years of experience performing Casting Defect Analysis

  • Strong analytic skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to understand multiple, complex requests and negotiate a mutually beneficial plan in a very dynamic environment

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor other members on team in areas of expertise

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additive Manufacturing Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Metal Casting, Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering

  • Six Sigma Green Belt

  • Experience auditing foundry processes and developing improvement plans

  • Experience implementing new processes into manufacturing

  • Experience in foundry tooling design

  • Experience in iron gating system design
