POSITION PURPOSE

Under direct supervision, polices the Medical Center property to deter vandalism, prevent illegal entry and maintain order. Assists the Medical Center staff as requested with various tasks. Adheres to the principles of Service Excellence Guiding Behaviors and the philosophy and mission of Mercy in all aspects of job performance.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

1.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Mercy standards.

2.

Functions as an important member of the Mercy Air Care ground support team, securing the landing pad and transporting the patients as needed.

3.

Assists with and guarantees the secure arrival of deceased patients to the morgue, and/or the morticians custody.

4.

Assists patients, visitors and employees with minor automotive difficulties, i.e., dead battery, flat tire, weather related difficulties, locked out of vehicle, out of fuel, etc.

5.

Tours parking areas, grounds, buildings, examining doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and not tampered with.

6.

Assists staff with the passive restraint of uncooperative patients, visitors or employees to ensure the safety of all concerned.

7.

Responds to stat calls regarding fire, theft, endangerment of life and property, or suspicious activity as required.

8.

Maintains a frequent patrol of parking areas to deter possible theft, vandalism and physical violence and to detect unauthorized vehicles or persons on Medical Center property.

9.

Stations themselves in possible hazardous locations to deter problems and lend assistance, escorting patients, visitors and employees upon request.

10.

Records activities and responses on the daily report form, completing maintenance requisitions and incident reports as required.

11.

Maintains a constant observation of individuals and situations that may display an abnormal behavior pattern confronting unauthorized personnel when necessary.

12.

Assists patients and visitors with directions and information, as required.

13.

Has a working knowledge of the Mercy Medical Center Hazard Surveillance Program and the reporting mechanism in place for addressing concerns.

14.

Demonstrates good powers of observation, in recognizing possible problem situations and dealing with them appropriately.

15.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

16.

Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in-services.

17.

Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in improving patient safety and reducing risk to patients. Complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies and Procedures.

18.

Driving is an essential job function. If a person loses his/her license he/she will not be able to execute their required job functions.

19.

Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Mercy and Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

20.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Mercy and Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees, and Mercy business.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Prefer high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid driver’s license. Must be personable and demonstrate good communication skills. Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team. Required to travel within the Siouxland region in order to perform job duties and responsibilities as assigned. A valid drivers license and proof of insurance must be submitted by the employee to their manager and will be maintained throughout employment. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Mercy and Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must successfully pass employment physical examination and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives. Must possess the ability to comply with Mercy and Trinity Health policies and procedures. This job is categorized as ""Medium Work"". Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job. Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and /or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Must be able to handle stress effectively. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, internal and external, which may affect the work place, such as infectious disease, chemical and/or chemical fumes, dust, noise, physical injury from an out of control patient, and adverse effects of inclement weather which may occur.
