Henry County Health Center Registered Nurse (RN) / House Supervisor - Emergency in Mount Pleasant, Iowa
Effective Communication and problem solving skills. Previous Emergency Department experience. Telemetry, BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC current or within 6 months of hire.
GENERAL DEFINITION /SCOPE of RESPONSIBILITIES
The House Supervisor represents leadership during hours that organizational leaders are not present. Provides oversight of HCHC and staff when department leaders are not present. Assures that Health Center policies and procedures are followed during the shift. Notifies administrator-on-call of any significant problems or situations.
Identifies and utilizes available resources within nursing and interdepartmentally; promoting efficient use of resources and helps maintain established levels of productivity.
Makes regular patient rounds/patient advocate documenting patient complaints and communicates where necessary.
Effectively addresses patient and family concerns as they arise in the absence of leadership; documenting concerns and follow up actions per organizational policy.
Serves as a role model/mentor to all staff at all times.
Provides staff education as appropriate.
Maintains clinical competencies of a registered staff nurse.
Assists in presenting &tracking competencies of nursing staff as assigned.
Responsible for effective rounding on the entire campus e.g. (ED, Park Place, Med Surg, EMS, OB, Communications, Lab, Radiology, EVS, etc.)
Works with Medical and Nursing staff to assure appropriate levels of care for admissions; utilizing current MCG guidelines for standard of care reference.
Serves as a resource for electronic medical record documentation and order entry.
Assists in obtaining needed patient care supplies from stores and pharmacy after hours when needed.
Initiates the process for disasters; following organizational policies regarding incident command, safety, and security.
Assures incident reporting occurs when needed on shift and assists associates and leadership in follow-up actions.
Keeps Department leaders informed of: Unusual patient or staff occurrences, changes in staffing requirements vs. patient activity/acuity, commendable performance and or disciplinary issues with appropriate documentation, operational issues within departments.
Provides Departmental leaders input regarding staff performance on evaluations.
Becomes first line in Chain of Command.
Contacts/notifies on call administrator for questions, risk management issues, Chain of Command initiation, or unusual organizational occurrences for additional guidance on follow up actions.
Assists in meeting the staffing needs of departments by calling staff in as needed, or determining census time needs.
Responsible for preparing the Operating Room for STAT C-Sections and any other emergent cases.
Assists with the admission or discharge process of patients where necessary.
May assist with relieving front line staff when appropriate for breaks during the shift.
Cross trains to assist with emergent staffing needs in the ED, OB, Med Surg, Surgery/PACU, and Park Place as needed.
Assists nursing leaders by interpreting and educating staff on hospital policy as necessary.
Provides oversight of ancillary staff on shift.
Attends nursing patient care departmental huddles.
Assists with auditing of patient care records, departmental huddles, medication administration, and shift to shift hand off reports as assigned.
Ensures documentation of organizational-wide quality metrics is being completed.
Completes an end of shift report for leadership.
Set the example of professionalism of HCHC and nursing on and off the unit.
Serves as a professional role model in appearance, communication, and ethical behavior.
Establish strong working relationships with the patient care providers, including patient rounding.
Serves as a patient advocate at all times.
Identifies and performs service recovery as needed.
Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Nursing Division.
Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, specialty area, orientation, and teaching of the staff.
Attends all mandatory inservices / education within HCHC.
Acquires required CEU’s to maintain licensure and/or certification.
Assists with maintenance of equipment assigned to patient care and reports problems and orders service as needed.

B. Education and Experience:1. 3-5 years acute care nursing experience 2. 3-5 years nursing experience in the Emergency Department or ICU. 3. Prior nursing supervisory experience. 4. Graduation from an accredited nursing program
C. Annual requirements, licensure, and certification1. Must have an active Iowa nursing license in good standing 2. Certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP and TNCC 3. Current certification in Mandatory Reporting
D. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids1. Proficient with the use of electronic medical records 2. Proficient with the use of Microsoft office products, such as Outlook, Word and Excel 3. Standard equipment used in patient care
