POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION PURPOSE

Is responsible for creating an environment of organizational learning about patient safety and medical/health care error reduction, supports sharing of knowledge, and fosters behavioral changes to improve patient safety.

25.

Serves as the appointed designee for various hospital committees and is responsible for the appropriate committees designed to oversee the quality of services provided.

Collaborates with internal and external agencies to facilitate the requirements of FAA, NTSB, OSHA, American College of Surgeons, State Department of Health, other third party payors, including Medicare and Medicaid.

27.

Collaborates with medical staff with ongoing communication and participation in various MSO committees with special emphasis on communication/collaboration with medical directors of assigned responsibilities.

28.

Maintains a close liaison with physicians and their office staff in the scheduling and the management of patients providing for the timeliness of reports and follow-up and the coordination of appropriate patient data.

29.

Continually evaluates programs and effects necessary changes in personnel and operations to maintain MercyOne’s image as a leader in excellence in the community and region, coordinating changes with the Chief Nurse Executive and the Vice President of Patient Care Services.

30.

Monitors enforcement of medical staff and hospital by-laws, rules, regulation, standards and requirements established by regulatory, accreditation and professional organizations.

31.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in

accordance with MercyOne standards.

32.

Actively participates in department meetings, committees, conferences, and in services.

33.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Is a Registered Nurse maintaining a current Iowa license. B.S.N. required. Requires a minimum of three to five years relevant work experience. A minimum of one to two years of management/supervisory experience preferred. National Certification in specialty encouraged required. Ability to cope with frequent stress and capable of successfully working through adversity. Is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change. Must be able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team. May be requested to travel within the Siouxland region. When assigned to travel, a valid driver's license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.) Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of MercyOne and Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Must successfully pass employment physical examination and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives. Must possess the ability to comply with MercyOne and Trinity Health policies and procedures. This job is categorized as "Light Work". Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing. Must be able to handle stress effectively. Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, internal and external, which may affect the work place, such as infectious disease, chemical and/or chemical fumes, dust, noise, physical injury from an out of control patient, and adverse effects of inclement weather which may occur.
