The purpose of the Hardware Technician’s role is to support, maintain, and dispose of in-house technology equipment and IT assets. This includes installing, configuring, diagnosing, repairing, and upgrading all Iowa Judicial Branch hardware and equipment while ensuring its optimal performance. This person also troubleshoots problem areas in a timely and accurate manner and provides end-user training and assistance.

Position is located in the Cerro Gordo JCS Office, Mason City. Primary designated area of coverage will include, but not be limited to, the following counties: Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, Winnebago, Worth, Mitchell, Floyd, Cerro Gordo, Hancock, Palo Alto, Clay, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright, Franklin, and Butler. Travel required. Coverage area subject to change with given notice.

Responsibilities:

Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning for meeting future hardware and Judicial Branch technology needs.

Aid in development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, maintain current knowledge of plan executables, and respond to crises in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Conduct research on, and make recommendations for hardware products.

Identify and deliver required hardware service support.

Liaise with, and provide training and support to, end users and staff on equipment operation and other issues.

Install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user and network hardware, peripheral devices, printing/scanning devices, presentation equipment, and other products.

Where required, install, configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot associated end user software products.

Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex hardware problems for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including off-site repair as needed.

Receive and respond to incoming calls and/or e-mails regarding hardware problems.

Develop and maintain an inventory of all equipment; PCs, laptops, tablets, monitors, printers, scanners, and other peripheral equipment.

Assist with the disposal of surplus hardware and equipment according to the approved disposal method.

Document instances of hardware failure, repair, installation, and removal via call tracking system.

If necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors.

Recommend, schedule, and perform hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades, and repairs.

Other duties as assigned.

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, public

administration, or computer science preferred, and 1 year relevant experience.

OR

At least 2 years of direct experience. One year of college may substitute for a maximum of one year work experience.

Must have a valid State of Iowa driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Must be able to lift and transport moderately heavy to heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.

Comprehensive hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.

Working technical knowledge of current operating systems, software, and standards, used by the Branch.

Ability to operate tools, components, and peripheral accessories.

Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and OEM guides.

Ability to conduct research into hardware products and issues as required.

Strong documentation skills.

Ability to present ideas and communicate in both technical and user-friendly language.

Understanding of the Branch’s goals and objectives.

Highly self-motivated and directed.
