Heartland Area Education Agency Special Education Consultant in Johnston, Iowa

Description:

Heartland AEA has a full-time position available for the 2024-25 school year, based out of the Knoxville regional office. The assignment will be in the Knoxville, Pella and Pella Christian School Districts. This position will have a 192-day contract. This position requires the person to have a strong background in academics, behavior and transition. The Special Education Consultant should have a strong background in behavior and the ability to support the development of FBAs and BIPs. Requires ongoing collaboration, coaching and evaluation in curriculum activities and techniques, serving on evaluation/reevaluation teams for children suspected of needing special education/receiving IEP services and ensuring parental involvement in education activities. Experience leading systemic school improvement in the area of literacy and math within tiered systems of supports (MTSS) is desired.

Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must have demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with parents, team members, administrators and LEA staff and must also demonstrate strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to adapt to a changing system. The position requires a master's degree, 4 years teaching experience (2 in special education), and the Special Education Consultant endorsement (or ability to obtain).
