As a Day Health Lead, you will oversee and assist in implementing STAR lessons at our Johnston Centers. IAbout Autism Day HealthOur Autism Day Health program is the only one of its kind in Iowa. We offer specialized weekday care for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ages two through six years old). Children receive positive behavioral support from staff along with occupational, speech, and physical therapy on-site during the day to promote overall health and development. The STAR program is an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) instructional method of discrete trial training, pivotal response training and teaching functional routines form the instructional base of this comprehensive program for children with autism. The STAR Program includes detailed lesson plans, teaching materials, data systems and a curriculum-based assessment for teaching in the six curricular areas of receptive language, expressive language, spontaneous language, functional routines, academics, and play & social skills. Each child receives 20-30 minutes of one on one teaching each day. Schedule
Full Time: 40 hours per week
Monday-Friday between 7:30am-5:30pm
What You'll Do
Oversee implementation of STAR lessons at Johnston Center.
Assist as needed in implementing STAR lessons at Johnston Child Care.
Train staff on implementation and documentation of Functional Routines and PRT within the classroom.
Assist children in becoming as independent as possible through skill development and retention
Follows all aspects of the care plan, within scope, to include nursing, therapy, and behavior support
Provides a therapeutic environment for care and treatment
Maintains accurate, complete and timely records
Communicates with children, licensed professionals, ChildServe personnel, families, schools, and the public, in a courteous and professional manner
What You'll Need
Preferred: Four year degree
Required: Minimum of two years’ experience working with children.
Preferred: Experience working with children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Must complete and pass the National DCI fingerprint process, and child/adult abuse and criminal background check prior to hire and every two years thereafter; and complete the child abuse affidavit.
Must be able to pass a ChildServe physical examination at commencement of employment and thereafter as regulations require.
Be able to withstand exposure to the usual childhood diseases and conditions associated with children and disabilities.
Required to complete TB Test and annual flu shot
Lift up to 50lbs, be mobile within the clinic areas, and frequently bend, lift, reach, and stand.
Maintain a calm demeanor in an environment that can change quickly with elevated behaviors and different demands
Ability to communicate effectively in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
