What you'll do
Principal is looking for a motivated individual to Corporate Accounting as a Senior Accounting Analyst. This particular job has a 50/50 focus on financial controls and technical accounting.
In this role, you'll have a variety of responsibilities, including:
Participating in the company-wide assessment of accounting and financial reporting risks and provide assistance, as appropriate, to help resolve identified control gaps.
Assisting in the development, communication, training, and maintenance of appropriate guidance necessary to document and evaluate internal controls over financial reporting.
Assisting colleagues across the company with their responsibilities related to the quarterly certification of controls and monitor their performance throughout the year. If control deficiencies are identified, document and evaluate the deficiencies and help the business units to understand and remediate the issues quickly.
Assisting with projects and in-depth internal controls reviews as necessary, including coordination of activities with Principal Global Services, Inc. in Pune, India.
Researching and detailing technical accounting conclusions for emerging accounting guidance, products and transactions proposed or executed by the organization. This may be on a U.S. GAAP or Statutory (for insurance companies) basis of accounting.
Willingness to travel internationally if required.

Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience required
8+ years of related experience required
CPA or other applicable certifications strongly preferred
Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills
Must demonstrate the ability to inspire change, informally lead to get results, and find opportunities for process improvements
Prior experience in financial statement or operational auditing at a senior level preferred
Knowledge of GAAP and statutory (for insurance companies) accounting and reporting requirements is desired
Ability to document processes, risks, and controls and develop a control testing plan. Should possess a basic understanding of IT controls
Have a basic understanding of the disclosure and internal control reporting requirements of Sections 302 and 404 of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002
