This Position

As a Principal Cloud FinOps Business / Data Analysts, you will be responsible for creating highly available solutions within Pearson’s vast cloud and Data Center estate. The FinOps team is a foundational team producing consumable Cloud Financial Management solutions for Pearson’s products. Our team develops and innovative solutions to promote effective management of Pearson’s resources without impacting service quality. You will be a key contributor to our organizational brand as we deliver these services globally across Pearson lines of business. Your work will align and lead these best-in-class Cloud Financial Management.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Be responsible for the financial aspects of our cloud strategy.

  • Facilitated communication among the cloud community personas internally using a multi-cloud and hybrid strategy.

  • Participate in providing experienced advice and consulting on cloud financial management activities

  • Program management around the enterprise CCOE governance phases including creating, administrate and adjudicate the Box CCOE/FinOps standards and policies for mature operations.

  • Contribute to new statement of work intake projects, by reviewing architecture, providing estimates, and diving Cloud Optimization best practices.

  • Lead cloud financial governance model, compliance management covenants planning, and track overall implementation progress through audit reporting FinOps scope.

  • Support consumers in understanding their cloud bills based on their business goals and budget.

  • Extract, analyze, and collaborate with team members across management, financial, application engineering and SRE using multiple large-scale datasets within cloud billing and usage, CMDB, asset inventory, and product taxonomy models to support senior engineering and financial partners in decision making strategies.

  • Analyze spend trends, opportunities for savings and offer our customers advisory services with specific improvement recommendations.

  • Perform business case analysis for cloud adoption and other cloud initiatives.

  • Provides weekly, monthly and annual reports. Provides special reports and analyses to support the business as needed and help with the team’s continuous improvement in providing analysis for reporting.

  • Provide executive level summaries and details for Cloud Financial Management strategy across public clouds.

  • Respond to ad hoc data queries requests from business units with timely, accurate, and reliable data presented in an easy-to-understand fashion.

  • Worked with distributed teams and influence strategy, tactics, and execution in an inclusive manner.

  • Configure and manage cloud cost optimization tools, financial reporting and analytics dashboards, and business intelligence tools.

  • Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity.

  • Automate manual data gathering, inputs, calculations, and general toil reduction for all reporting datasets and connectors.

  • Experienced in negotiating EDP or Private Pricing with Vendors.

You may be a good fit for our team if you:

  • Strong understanding of technical engineering concepts of Applications infrastructure requirements, understanding of cloud requirements for engineering capacity, ability to partner cross-organizationally and drive cost optimization discussions, attention to detail, innovative thought leader to develop cost optimization strategies.

  • Prior experience with KPI/OKR modeling in a FinOps program and how to tie cloud costs metrics and business activity metrics back to business value goals and historical performance reviews.

  • Strong leadership and management skills including building and leading high performing teams.

  • Excellent communication skills: can establish credibility, build consensus, and partner cross-functionally without direct authority.

  • Experience managing executive stakeholders, building relationships, defining business cases, and driving consensus.

  • Exhibits sound business judgment, a proven ability to influence others, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of taking ownership, leading data driven analyses, and influencing results.

  • Able to operate successfully in a lean, fast-paced organization, and to create a vision and organization that can scale quickly.

  • Proactive thinker analyzing data sets and trends along with business roadmaps to identify opportunities over multi-year cloud journey time horizon.

Nice to have technical experience:

  • Practical experience writing code using cloud provider APIs.

  • Have skills to extract and analyze complex datasets using well optimized SQL queries and define/implement dashboards and reports.

  • Familiarity with any advanced data analysis tools for example: Tableau, Alteryx, PowerBI, SQL, etc. We use Alteryx extensively.

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of cloud business operations role or IT Finance which 3 years of experience with an emphasis in cloud cost management

  • Experience with Azure & GCP cloud technologies; including certifications

  • FinOps certification

  • Attitude and aptitude for continually learning new things
