Under the direction of the collaborating physician, the nurse practitioner (NP) or physician assistant (PA) provides patient services to cardiology patients consistent with the practice standards of his/her profession, as well as consistent with the services that are customary to the collaborating physician. The NP/PA follows the practices and policies of the Iowa Heart Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Performs all functions and procedures of an office provider under general direction by collaborating physician.
Interprets and evaluates patient data as authorized by the collaborating physician for the purpose of determining management and treatment of patients.
Requests diagnostic procedures as indicated by pertinent data and patient medical status.
Provides instructions and guidance regarding medical care matters to patients.
Completes detailed and accurate patient histories and reviews patient records to develop comprehensive plan of care.
Performs patient care including evaluation and management services diagnostic testing and minor therapeutic procedures congruent with Iowa Heart policies and Medicare guidelines.
Performs physical exams and records pertinent patient data.
Coordinates discharge planning of Iowa Heart Center inpatients and outpatients care including dictation and discharge summaries.
Assists with research patients as requested.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
Must have and be able to maintain an unrestricted nurse practitioner or physician assistant license to practice in Iowa.
Prefer a minimum of two years’ experience as a nurse practitioner/physician assistant and cardiology experience.
Must become and remain an active member in good standing on Mercy’s Medical Staff (“Medical Staff”) with appropriate clinical privileges.
Must be able to maintain participating provider status with Medicare and Medicaid programs and not have been excluded from participation in any federally-funded health care program, including Medicare or Medicaid.
Must be able to maintain an unrestricted federal DEA number and applicable state drug permits.
Valid driver’s/chauffeur’s License required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
