This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.
Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.
Judicial Specialist 2 position with the Johnson County Clerk of District Court office in Iowa City, IA . Starting Annual salary $33,987.20; Bi-weekly salary $1,307.20 / Hourly wage $16.34, plus State of Iowa Benefit Package.
Under general supervision, performs customer service, clerical, paralegal tasks and/or administrative work necessary for: maintenance and processing of court records, maintenance of case assignments and scheduling, maintenance of proper courtroom decorum and assisting the judicial officer(s) to achieve the efficient operation of the court. The Judicial Specialist will be assigned to a limited number of functions and will be trained to gradually obtain the knowledge and capability of performing more complex duties. Position may include occasional weekend and holiday hours worked.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program.
Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service.
At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education. Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience.
*Candidates with the National Career Readiness Certificate preferred. Testing is available at all IowaWORKS locations and results are available immediately.
Final candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check.
