Hourly Aquatics Program Job Openings The City of Iowa City Recreation division is accepting applications for positions within the Aquatics Program. Hourly Aquatics Program staff assignments may include the following: Lifeguard $15.00 per hour Definition of Work: Responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing emergencies by surveilling city pools and responding effectively to emergencies. Enforce pool rules, policies and regulations. Perform cleaning duties, pool tests and logs, and facility checks. Attend and actively participates in regularly scheduled trainings, maintain certifications and maintain fitness levels. Respond to varying public needs and questions and exudes outstanding customer service skills. Must be a strong problem solver and have ability to use independent judgement. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred at hire or ability to obtain certification. Must pass American Red Cross physical requirements within 90 days of hire. Must pass criminal background check. Hours of Operation: Varied schedule including mornings, afternoons and evenings during public hours of operation, seven days a week. Swim Lesson Instructor $15.00 per hour Definition of Work: Provide group and private swim lessons and water safety instruction to infants, children and adults following the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim curriculum and guidelines. Teaches appropriate skills and techniques based on age and level using well-designed lesson and block plans. Completes reports on participant progress and communicates with participants and guardians regarding class sessions. Attend and actively participates in regularly scheduled trainings, maintain certifications and maintains fitness level. Responds to varying public needs and questions and exudes outstanding customer service skills. Must be a strong problem solver and have ability to use independent judgement. Conduct self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Experience with instructing swim lessons or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification preferred but not required. Must pass criminal background check. Hours of Operation: Varied schedule including mornings, evenings, and Sundays. Water Exercise Instructor $15.00 per hour Definition of Work: Instruct safe and motivating group classes for all fitness levels and ages. Teach appropriate exercises, stretches and techniques using well-designed class plans. Possess willingness to incorporate various forms of movement and sequencing and maintain an interest in continuing education and water exercise class trends. Motivate and inspire classes through verbal cues, use of music and informed use of fitness equipment. Attend and actively participates in regularly scheduled trainings, maintain certifications and maintain fitness level. Respond to varying public needs and questions and exudes outstanding customer service skills. Must be a strong problem solver and have ability to use independent judgement. Conduct self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Experience with leading aquatic exercise or possession of certification through nationally accredited organization in water fitness instruction preferred. Must pass criminal background check. Hours of Operation: Varied scheduled based on classes offered in mornings and evenings. Aquatics Facility Custodian $15.00 per hour Start and end dates are negotiable within May September season Seasonal full-time positions are limited to a 5-month duration Definition of Work: Must possess outstanding organization, problem solving skills and have the ability to work independently to complete repetitive and as-needed cleaning tasks. Completes various cleaning duties and projects at outdoor pool facility including indoor locker rooms) and outdoor areas ( deck) including stocking and inventorying supplies, leaf blowing, power washing and basic maintenance tasks as assigned. Must be able to independently identify and address facility cleanliness issues that may arise. Attends and actively participates in regularly scheduled trainings. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must pass criminal background check. Hours of Operation: Varied schedule throughout the week; shifts available from 4:00am 8:00am. Monday- Sunday at City Park Pool (May-September).

Aquatics Customer Service Attendant

15.00 per hour Start and end dates are negotiable within May September season Seasonal full-time positions are limited to a 5-month duration Definition of Work: Responds to varying public needs and questions and exudes outstanding customer service skills. Must be a strong problem solver and have ability to use independent judgement. Must be able to perform various office duties including typing, filing, answering phones, working with our registration software and other tasks as assigned. Ability to manage and supervise facility activities and users; effectively communicate general information and enforce policies and procedures is essential. Performs cleaning duties and maintenance tasks. Attends and actively participates in regularly scheduled trainings and maintain certifications. Conducts self in a manner which promotes and supports diversity and inclusivity in the workplace and community. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Current American Red Cross CPR Certification preferred at hire or ability to obtain certification. Must pass criminal background check.
