FRANKLIN COUNTY Naturalist in Hampton, Iowa

Join our Conservation team sharing knowledge about our environment to connect people to and foster a love for nature across Franklin and Wright Counties! POSITION AVAILABLE: Full-time, Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours, weekends, and/or holidays. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: In this role, you will be at the forefront of planning, developing, and presenting innovative environmental education and programs. Exercise creativity by crafting engaging lesson plans, curricula, and educational materials for local schools, youth groups, and the general public that focuses on topics integral to conservation and the environment. You will be responsible for educational displays, live animal exhibits, and providing informative content on our social media platforms. As a representative of the Conservation Board, your public relations efforts will be instrumental in responding to inquiries and organizing fundraising initiatives. Additionally, your role involves enlisting, coordinating, and supervising volunteers or interns. QUALIFICATIONS: You should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to a diverse audience. As a Naturalist, you should have a knowledge of conservation laws, principles, and practices and be able to identify trees, plants, and wildlife species in Iowa. Valid Iowa drivers license, and insurability are required. Must possess certification in CPR/First Aid or be able to acquire in first six months of hire, possess or have the ability to obtain in first year of employment NWCG S130/S190.

Must be willing/able to travel to both Franklin and Wright counties, and to travel to various locations within those counties. A county-owned vehicle will be provided for work use. The two primary work locations are Hampton and Clarion, IA.Acceptance of position is contingent on passing of post-offer physical, drug screen, and criminal background check. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D and Bachelors degree in natural sciences, education, biology or related field or a two-year degree with two years of relevant experience is required. One year of full-time paid experience in conservation, education, or natural science preferred or any equivalent combination.
