Stellar Industries Inc Assistant Safety Coordinator in Garner, Iowa
Primary functions are to: (1) Provide technical safety and health support to production and corporate personnel, (2) develop and maintain corporate safety training programs and goals, (3) monitor safety and health regulations and provide technical support to plant and corporation personnel to ensure compliance with State and Federal safety and health regulations.
Maintain safety policy for the company, revise as needed, review and edit existing safety policy on an ongoing basis so as to have an effective safety policy designed to minimize exposures and increase controls. The safety policy will also provide for compliance with OSHA, DOT and other federal, state and local regulations
Perform safety audits on a regular basis at all Stellar Industries, Inc. facilities, recording those audits electronically and issuing a regular report of findings to the management team. The purpose of those audits will be to ensure compliance with company safety policy, with regulations including OSHA and DOT as applicable and to ensure that accident and injury producing conditions at the jobsite level are kept to an absolute minimum.
Duty to conduct follow up visits for all audits performed.
Conduct safety training, review of audit findings, and loss review with supervisors on a regular basis.
Issue an annual schedule of safety meeting topics.
Assist in management and prevention of Workers Compensation injuries.
To assist with proper removal of waste material.
Develop, coordinate and conduct training with employees on an as needed basis to meet federal, state and local regulations.
Conduct a weekly summary of employee injury and provide a status report to management.
Coordinate the process of accident investigations to obtain results that allow for recommendations to eliminate or significantly reduce the conditions that allowed the accident to occur i.e. Determine Root Cause.
Facilitate the corporate safety committee.
Serve on the committee to review investigation reports and to interview supervisors and employees as necessary for the committee.
Coordinate safety services provided by outside partners/vendors and to assist claims adjusters with claims.
Comply with all report procedures outlined by the state and federal governing bodies (OSHA, EPA, DNR, etc.).
Document safety in the workplace. This will include training schedules, employees receiving training and hazardous material storage requirements, etc.
Conduct periodic safety inspections on all equipment, manufacturing procedures and employee safety.
Work with Engineering Team to ensure safety is engineered into the processes as they are modified or created.
Work with Maintenance Team to ensure safety and environmental needs are met.Must be able to support plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment and making sure first aid supplies are available.

Promote safety and health awareness through internal company communication channels (newsletter, bulletin boards, etc.)
Assist as necessary in implantation and report of GHS program and preparation of MMMM compliance recordkeeping, Tier II and Title V reporting, etc.
Must be results oriented and manage continuous improvement.
Typical work hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Monday – Friday; willing to come in on off work/duty hours.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Must have a good driving record.
Must be able to effectively deal with other people, especially other personnel, to enlist cooperation in implementing regulatory requirements.
Able to deal with regulatory agencies, consultants and other contractor personnel.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Education and Experience:
Minimum formal education of Associate Degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum OSHA training of 30 hours OSHA Outreach Program within last 4 years, willingness to complete compliance recordkeeping and reporting including OSHA Reporting (300 Logs) as required.
Experience in conducting safety audits and documentation of findings and follow-ups to appropriate management team.
Must have knowledge of “Confined Space Entry” safety.
Must have a thorough knowledge of Global Harmonizing System (GHS) regulations.
Must have a thorough knowledge of “Lock Out – Tag Out’ safety.
Must have knowledge of OSHA standards and be able to implement that knowledge.
Must have knowledge of DOT driver regulations and be able to monitor program.
