As a Cyber Engineer (RSA Netwitness/Palo Alto) supporting the Department of Education, you will be trusted to work on administration and maintenance of network security systems, applications, and solutions for external customer's enterprise-wide cyber systems and networks.

In this role, a typical day will include the responsibilities below:

  • Administration and Maintenance of firewalls, including but not limited to Palo Alto

  • Administration and Maintenance of SEIM, including but not limited to RSA Netwitness and/or Splunk

  • Act as an escalation point for NAC/firewall related issues.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot, and remediate issues within the enterprise.

  • Maintain a relationship with key Third-Party vendors, such as software/hardware vendors to provide support to the infrastructure as needed.

  • Create and maintain network diagrams and document activities and as required for customer

  • Work closely with other IT functional teams to ensure cohesive support and strategies across the IT organization

  • Produce status reports as required by customer

  • Attend customer meetings as requested

  • Develop remediation and mitigation guidance to include vendor-supplied remediation's, mitigating actions to reduce risk, and actions to address vulnerabilities.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of strategies to enhance and mature network security.

  • Track and provide metrics and compliance as required by customer

  • Create, maintain, and mature standard operating procedures (SOPs) and associated documentation.

  • Collaborates with end users, infrastructure support teams and other contractors to define and measure security policy and standards across the customer’s environment.

Required qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of IT knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience in cyber security. Experience working with cross-functional teams (i.e., engineering, operations, and cybersecurity).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Social Science or minimum 5 years of experience in lieu of degree

  • Knowledgeable and deep understanding of network access controls and policies.

  • Strong communication skills required, and problem-solving ability.

  • Understanding of RSA Netwitness or equivalent SEIM / Log Aggregation tool.

  • Understanding of Palo Alto Firewalls to include basic networking, sub-netting, IDS, NAT, ACLs or equivalent products.

  • Ability to articulate policies applied into executive reports.

  • Familiar with attack and exploitation techniques involving operating systems, applications, and devices.

  • Knowledgeable of NIST SP 800-53 security and privacy controls.

  • Knowledgeable of FISMA reporting requirements.

  • Experience with Incident Response Team (IR/IRT) troubleshooting, root cause analysis and remediation verification.

  • Ability to successfully accomplish tasks with minimal oversight and management.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust

Preferred qualifications:

  • Network + CCNA

  • RSA Netwitness

  • ITIL Foundations Certification (v3/v4)
