Nutritional Host/Hostess
FTE: .40 (Part-time, 16 hours per week)
Shift: Various hours between 7a-7p
Performs a variety of duties related to food service including but not limited to: meal delivery to the patients, menu collection, tray pick up, fill and deliver nourishments, taking inventory of the unit pantries and resupplying to pre-establisted par levels. Works as a team member with Nutritional Services, the patients/patients families, and nursing, to maximize patient meal satisfaction. Practices customer service requirements at all times. You are expected to be very courteous and professional in a manner and appearance.
Performs assignments as defined within the scope of the specific job routine.
Delivery of patient meal, ensuring correct meal is being provided according to patient census/diet for meal and by matching meal with patient using two patient identifier policy.
Retrieval meal trays from patient room at the end of meal and place in food cart.
Record patient food and fluid intake on appropriate record.
Provide assistance with menu completion during menu collection and then return menu to diet office.
Provide fresh drinking water and additional beverage service to patient not on fluid restriction. Record appropriate information on I&O record.
Conduct daily inventory or unit pantry and refrigerator to determine unit’s needs. Enter order in Nourishment ordering system. Responsible for stocking nursing unit pantries.
Document patient refrigerator/freezer temperatures according to policy.
Maintain cleanliness of unit pantry equipment – refrigerator, freezer, microwave, cupboards, coffee brewer, toaster, countertops, on a regular basis and according to established schedule and policy.
Solicits patient feedback regarding meal service and communicates patients’ needs to appropriate Nutritional Service personnel.
Adheres to policies at all times while delivering meals, tray retrieval, and menu pick up for patients in isolation using appropriate techniques and Standard Precautions.
Assigned work areas are completely cleaned and sanitized, and all assigned cleaning is completed prior to the end of shift.
Demonstrates positive customer relation skills.
Adheres to Hospital and Unit policies and procedures.
May be assigned to assist to other areas of the Nutritional Services Department as needed.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Experience:
Prior customer service and/or health care food service experience preferred, but not required.
Skills/Abilities:
Ability to exercise good judgement, maintain effective interpersonal relationships and adapt to change. Ability to organize work. Must demonstrate knowledge and skills required for specialized area of assignment. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to read, write, and speak English.
