Looking for an opportunity to pass on your Construction trade passion and ability, while simultaneously influencing good outcomes for young men, equipping them to pursue meaningful careers in the construction industry? Look no further than the State Training School (STS) at Eldora.

The school is looking to hire a Residential Construction Vocational Instructor; a role that's essential to satisfying provisions of holistic social, behavioral, academic and vocational programing, adding value to young males, ages 12 to 18 years old, adjudicated delinquent. Services and programs provide individualize treatment and offer comprehensive education, with a goal of transitioning the young man back to his community. The facility is operated by the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS).

The educational program is available for residents and include:

  • General education studies

  • Special education programs

  • Title I

  • High School Equivalency Diploma (formerly GED)

  • Competency-based vocational programs

The Residential Construction Vocational Instructor is integral to the successful outcome of the young men at the facility. Therefore, if you enjoy challenging, yet rewarding work helping students find stability in their lives and security in their future; and have 6,000 hours of experience in the construction industry along with proficiency:

  • planning, preparing and delivering lessons

  • teaching according to the educational needs, abilities and achievement of individual students and groups of students; and

  • assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and behavior of students

– you will want to have a career at the STS.

The State Training School has a long tradition of Competency-Based Vocational Programs and has historically worked with Habitat for Humanity and other community organizations to help the students gain skills. The incumbent will have the ability to re-engage with community partners to provide experiential learning for the students enrolled in the program.

The State Training School is located in Eldora, Iowa, home of the Pine Lake State Park which offers an array of indoor/outdoor recreational activities. Eldora is an Iowa River Greenbelt Community featuring quaint shops, eating choices, and plenty of family friendly activity. The Iowa River Greenbelt Scenic Drive is a must do which winds through a picturesque landscape of valleys, woods and streams.

Certification as a Vocational Instructor by the Iowa Department of Education in an occupational area offered by a state institutional vocational program, which are as follows:
