PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for the assembly, packaging, shipping, and sewing of products according to work orders, drawings and blueprints. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Read and complete work orders and pick lists. Operate fork lift/hoist/crane. Operate pneumatic or electric tools, a variety of hand tools including hammers and hand saws. Package and ship product. Generate shipping documents using a computer. Complete assembly work as required using production drawings. Weld plastic type material using heat and/or radio frequency. Assemble Door-parts products, samples, and specials as per customer specifications. Products may be standard or include various product options. Select, inspect, package, and ship daily orders. This position is also responsible for proper packaging to ensure delivery of product in factory condition. The Assembler may be required to do his/her own material handling including moving skids of raw materials as well as finished product via forklift.

Assist production planning team with part numbers, inventory counts, and other information as requested.

Call in special shipping carriers, generate export papers and operate UPS machine for small parcel shipments. Assist department in maintaining inventory levels and cycle counting. Work with design or industrial engineering on changes to existing products or training on new products. Use production drawings. Receive and respond to instructions provided by supervisor. Position, design and fasten parts in specific relationship with each other. Use jigs, fixtures and other assembly devices. Use electrical and air powered hand tools such as drill presses, saws, riveters, sanders and routers. Prepare and package product for shipment. Crimp, stake, screw, glue, bolt and rivet parts together. Read, follow and assemble electrical products according to schematics. Disassemble and assemble as required. Weld plastic type material using heat and/or radio frequency. Keep accurate inventories. Meet all quality standards per the latest engineering specifications. Work at different work stations as production needs require. Ensures proper storage and usage of hazardous and flammable materials. Effectively communicates with other departments regarding completed parts or product to facilitate on time shipment. Responsible for executing and supporting the quality system and procedures in the effort for continuous improvement.

Cuts material to prepare for sewing process. Sew units according to work orders, drawings and blueprints, using an industrial sewing machine. Guides parts under needle following edges, seams, guides on machine bed or markings on part. Starts, stops, and controls speed of machine with pedal or knee lever. Selects sewing supplies such as binding, braid, cord, piping, tape, thread, or welt, according to specifications or color of material. Observes stitching to detect defects and notifies supervisor or sewing machine repairer when defects are caused by machine malfunction. Cross-train in the different sewing areas as needed. Cuts excess thread or material. Cleans and oils machine. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Assemble door products according to engineering specifications with the highest level of quality. Meet schedule commitments required by each respective division. Make suggestions for improvement to products and processes.

Complete quality assembly of Door-parts products while meeting established production standards. Properly package product to ensure timely shipment as well as delivery of product in factory condition. Perform material handling duties in a safe and effective manner.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
