Robert Half International Sr. Accountant in DES MOINES, Iowa
As the Senior Accountant for the nonprofit you will perform a hybrid function of financial reporting and donor database management. The significant focus will be on financial reporting.
Prepares monthly and annual financial statements. Coordinates annual audits. Prepares annual budgets.
Prepares, documents, and analyzes monthly general journal entries to reflect proper account balances at month end .
Analyzes and reconciles accounts monthly for financial statement accuracy and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles
Possesses effective problem solving and analytical skillsets to identify potential issues/outliers and determine and recommend appropriate resolutions
Prepares and reviews monthly financial statements and investigates unusual variances
Analyzes monthly revenues and expense reports and investigates variances from budget; follows up with departmental directors and managers as needed
Preparation of budgets, including ongoing performance monitoring and reporting
Assists in the coordination of Internal and External third party audits of financial statements and provides follow-up on outstanding items.
Provides day-to-day interaction and assistance to Accounts Payable personnel
Performs special projects as assigned by Vice President, Director, and Manager of department
Donor Database Support
Primary support for donor database integrity
Run queries, lists, reports as requested.
Backup support for gift receipting process.
Primary support for adding and updating donor demographic information, including mailing addresses, new addresses, seasonal addresses, deceased, new donors, attribute updating, solicitor portfolio classifications.
• Bachelors Degree in Accounting
2-3 years of experience in Accounting
Must have knowledge of general accounting, financial statement presentations, and statistical presentation necessary to support the financial reporting.
• Knowledgeable on personal computers and spreadsheet software.
• Possesses excellent written and verbal communications.
• Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
