Principal Financial Group Risk Management Director - Asset Management in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Risk Management Director to join our Principal Asset Management team. In this role, you’ll support all aspects of risk while focusing on operational and business risk for this global team! You'll work closely with business partners on the identification, mitigation and reporting of risks.

  • Consult and partner with key business stakeholders to provide risk expertise and consulting services for projects and initiatives. Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to understand, recommend, and lead risk management activities.

  • Develop and maintain systems, analytics, reporting, and data management capabilities to support effective individual and aggregate risk analysis and reporting. This includes early warning indicators and emerging risks, as well as reporting to risk committees.

  • Recommend risk strategies based on qualitative and quantitative analysis. Provide solutions for the management of strategies that consider risk management, business, and financial implications.

  • Build and oversee an appropriate governance structure. This may include the development of policies, procedures, oversight processes including committee and Board reporting, and management of exams and interaction with the business areas’ regulators as appropriate.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 10+ years of related work experience in Asset Management risk building global operational risk programs.

  • Industry experience and knowledge of advanced concepts in operational risk analysis including prior experience with risk tools (risk assessments, key risk indicators, loss/event database or incident tracking, unexpected loss modeling) is desirable.

  • Experience in building operational risk programs and translating risk assessment and analysis into recommendations and action.

  • Proven leadership and ability to motivate change.

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, and ability to convey mission, objectives, expectations and philosophy particularly in matrix environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization and to convey complex information both verbally and written.

  • Must have initiative and organizational skills to work efficiently and independently to meet aggressive deadlines on multiple projects.

  • International travel may be required and/or will need to be available to conduct calls outside of normal business hours.

  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$137000 - $185000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
