Kemin Industries Research Associate - Fermentation in Des Moines, Iowa

Overview

As a Research Associate at Kemin, you’ll provide research and development support for product development projects through scientific methodologies. You’ll provide a supporting role in various research projects and independently perform small research projects as needed by the business unit.

What you’ll do:

  • Support research and development projects

  • Perform wide range of laboratory bench top fermentation experiments of various microorganisms using 24-well Microbioreactors, shake flasks, 15L and pilot scale bioreactors

  • Conduct downstream processing including ultrafiltration, centrifugation and drying

  • Collect and analyze samples, monitor processes, collect and record data, and maintain all relevant equipment

  • Maintain accurate and detailed electronic laboratory notebooks

  • Contribute to experimental design, data analysis and research reports

  • Collaborate with scientists and research associates in the research team

  • Present results in group research meeting.

  • Contribute to scientific publications used for internal purposes; may be cited as an author following Kemin authorship guidelines.

  • Adhere to laboratory standard operating procedures, documentation and guidelines

What we require of you:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering or related discipline

  • Master’s Degree (preffered) with some academic or industrial research experience OR Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years’ experience in academic or industrial research settings

  • Hands-on experience in microbial fermentation preferred

  • Ability to work under pressure and detail oriented

  • Experience in analytical, biological and wet chemistry laboratory equipment

  • Experience in aseptic technique and other classical microbiology techniques is desired

  • Good understanding of Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Good organizational and prioritization skills.

  • Scientific curiosity and innovation.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects efficiently.

  • Reliable and self-motivated

  • The position is full-time. Work schedule may include weekends
