The 5th Judicial District’s Polk County Court Administration has an immediate opening for a Judicial Specialist 2 as a Court Attendant.

The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. The pay range is $37,544.00 to $54,932.80

Hours:Monday – Friday 8:00A – 4:30P

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Managing court calendar and judge's schedule

  • Coordinating scheduling with outer agencies to include county attorney, public defender and private bar

  • Coordinating interpreter services for court hearings

  • Preparing correspondence and answers public inquiries

  • Opens court and ensures parties are present and court runs on time

  • Coordinating transport of inmates through the Sheriff's office

  • Drafting orders and documents as requested by judicial officer

  • Tracking and ensuring cases meet all statutory deadlines

  • May include some weekend duty and travel

  • May assist in the coordination of specialty dockets such as truancy, drug court, and youthful offender programs

  • Operating technology in the court room during court procedures

Candidates will have the desire to learn the complexities of our court case processing system using our statewide Electronic Document Management System (EDMS).

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited high school (or High School Equivalency) and two (2) years of successful completion of accredited post high school education in business, paralegal, computer, legal assistant or related program. Two (2) years of professional office experience in business, court or legal work or a related area with one (1) year of the experience involving customer service. At the discretion of the appointing authority additional years of experience may be substituted for the required post high school education.

Or, the successful completion of additional years of education (i.e., Bachelor’s Degree) may be substituted for years of experience on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience. Education cannot be substituted for customer service experience.
