MidAmerican Energy Company Financial Analyst - Treasury and Corporate Finance in Des Moines, Iowa

*Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)


The financial analyst provides ongoing support for enterprise-wide cash flow forecasts; completes reports and analysis on forecasted financial information; performs analysis on key forecast inputs and assumptions; provides analytical support to the treasury operations group. This position will perform other financial and business analysis including ratio, cash flow and other analysis to identify financial impacts of business strategies. This position may also assist in the analysis of potential investments and acquisitions as needed.

Perform corporate, subsidiary and project cash flow forecast and variance analysis. (25%)

Support treasury operations area by providing financial analysis and cash management support. (15%)

Support annual budgeting/forecasting process for treasury group. (10%)

Complete monthly/quarterly reports related to credit ratings, consolidated debt, investment values, swap values, and other requests in support of financial reporting. (10%)

Provide asset acquisition/divestiture analysis support as needed. (10%)

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (30%)

Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Certification or advanced degree such as CPA, MBA or CFA beneficial.

Zero to three years related work experience in financial forecasting, financial modeling, financial analysis and/or accounting with an emphasis in financial analysis.

Intermediate accounting and financial skills with the ability to develop and interpret full financial statements, understand financial impacts of changes on cash flows and financial ratios, apply accounting principles to the preparation and analysis of financial statements and reports.

Intermediate research and analytical skills with understanding of quantitative analysis, financial analysis methods and tools, and cash flow analysis.

Intermediate software skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and ability to utilize advanced modeling techniques.

Ability to work with and gather information from subject matter experts such as working with the accounting team to project the income statement impact of a transaction.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to effectively monitor developments in forecasted and actual data, including recognizing patterns and/or outliers in data and events which may influence forecast results or assumptions; the ability to draw logical conclusions and make recommendations for action.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
