GENERAL SUMMARY :
Directs Cardiothoracic Surgery operations for the Iowa Heart Center in accordance with practice, state and other regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Plans, directs, and implements goals and objectives congruent with the overall Iowa Heart Center and Mercy mission, goals and objectives.
Directs functions including performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, hiring, job training, counseling, and terminations in coordination with Human Resources.
Oversees annual budget and plan for the cardiothoracic surgery operations in conjunction with Administration.
Approves all schedules of Mercy based providers and staff to include call, vacation, etc.
Optimizes resources utilization at all Mercy based locations.
Assists with Marketing and Public Relations.
Assists with quality initiatives including hospital-based national registry completion, in conjunction with the Iowa Heart Quality Coordinator and Mercy Clinical Documentation departments.
Identifies problems, works with providers and Iowa Heart Center staff to develop solutions. Works collaboratively with IHC and Mercy CSD management staff to identify improvements in patient care/safety, quality, and efficiency.
Facilitates communication between Iowa Heart Center and Mercy operational teams including staff, management and providers.
Collaborates with Directors/Managers regarding operational/staffing issues.
Participates in departmental meetings monthly and provider meetings as requested.
Facilitates operations to support the CSD strategic initiatives for Iowa Heart Center operations.
Acts as liaison with CSD and Mercy Hospital administrative staff, Mercy and IHC management team and IHC Providers to address/improve patient care issues.
Ensures personnel and policies are in compliance with laws and regulations governing the practice as OSHA, ADA, ERISA, CLIA, etc.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations and certifications.
Assists with risk management programs, including records of complaints and incidents. Develops corrective actions with physicians and staff.
Supports ongoing provider and staff education.
Operates required vehicle(s) in a safe manner to perform required duties of the position.
- Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
Five or more years of healthcare management experience; cardiovascular services preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s preferred
Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be at least 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).
