This position works in partnership with assigned clinics to review medical documentation to ensure appropriate coding and provides education to providers according to corporate, state and federal guidelines. The ideal candidate will be detailed orientated and have previous experience related to the coding role.
Monitors, evaluates and makes recommendations consistent with the various regulatory agencies to ensure clinic billing and documentation activities are compliant.
Completes documentation audits according to federal and state health statutes, as well as third party control provisions.
Educates providers and staff on appropriate documentation to accurately reflect the medical services provided.
Acts as resource in various committees and meetings to coordinate changes in provider auditing and coding processes.
Identifies compliance issues and analyzes practice patterns recommending changes to policies and procedures.
Maintains accuracy and completeness of provider audits in the auditing software application.
Interprets changes in the internal and external regulatory environment and stays current with corporate, state and federal coding updates.
Responds to questions from providers, managers, billing office and others related to CPT and ICD 10 coding, rules & regulations and documentation requirements.
Evaluates and responds to inquiries from governing bodies/regulatory agencies (i.e. ADR, RAC, CERT, and probe audits).
Demonstrates and applies knowledge and understanding of documentation, informatics, and nomenclatures in the medical documentation.
Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective and tactful written, verbal, and nonverbal communication with medical staff, colleagues and other departments throughout MercyOne, Trinity and Common Spirit.
