Works closely with the decentralized pharmacist supervisor and clinical pharmacy manager to ensure adequate staffing to maintain inpatient pharmacy services by completing the schedule, hiring, training and supervising the pharmacy staff within the main, IV room and satellite pharmacy.
Oversees and/or participates in assuring appropriate medications are prepared and delivered to care areas in a timely manner, and are stored both securely and in a manner appropriate for both stability and effective workflow.
Maintains quality and safety in the department through completion of quality control checks, identifying and reporting out medication errors and near misses, identifying process improvements and ensures appropriate documentation.
Acts as the medication safety officer, by reviewing all pharmacy department error documentations, improves processes to decrease risk of error, communicates to staff error prevention changes and leads medication safety interdisciplinary meeting.
Assist Clinical Pharmacy Manager with developing policies and procedures as necessary.
Maintain accurate records for all of the provisions of pharmaceutical care as required by regulatory bodies to include USP 795, 797 and 800 regulations.
Provide patient focused, outcome oriented pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages, including neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
Serve as preceptor for pharmacy students and residents and assists with projects for students and residents as needed.
Performs other job functions as directed by Clinical Pharmacy Manager.
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 1 year experience in the discipline OR 3 years’ experience in the discipline OR Master’s Degree and no experience
Licensed, or eligible for licensure, pharmacist in Iowa.
BLS certification within 6 months of hire.
