Essential Job Functions
Essential Functions I
Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers, and co-workers.
Greets smiles, and makes eye contact.
Introduces self by name.
Volunteers to help co-workers and other employees.
Addresses patients and others by surname.
Responds quickly to patients and/or other peoples' needs.
Demonstrates good communication style and interpersonal communication skills with patients/families.
Acts as receptionist for the department. Handles incoming and outgoing information in person and by telephone.
Always demonstrates proper office communication etiquette.
Takes reports from other departments without error.
Reports vital information to the appropriate nurse immediately.
Obtains information for physicians and telephones stat physician orders immediately upon awareness of the order.
Assists with maintenance and orderliness in the patient care areas.
Keeps the work environment at the nurses' station neat and orderly.
File drawers are labeled, orderly, and stocked.
Completes other cleaning tasks as assigned, empties trash confidential bins.
Maintains cleanliness for computers and countertops.
Checks and fills printers with paper.
Assists with patient admissions.
Assures room is ready and delivers the patient folder and patient labels to the assigned room.
Escorts or assists with transport of patient to the correct room, verifies that the patient identification bracelet is correct and/or applies the bracelet.
Notifies assigned nurse of patient's arrival.
Obtains patient signatures on selected patient care forms.
Obtains patient's signature on the “Consent to Treat” and the “Medicare Message” forms.
Assists with meeting patient care needs.
Completes inventory of supplies and materials.
Checks supply inventory and orders supplies according to par levels.
Monitors supplies for outdates and disposes of outdated material correctly.
Clerical Support
Label and scan documents into the electronic health record.
Assures that requests for facsimile copies are completed.
Provides phone communication with selected department or agencies.
Assist with communication to physician offices for consults.
Calls correct physician or physician office to convey the order for a patient consult, provides appointment verification, and does data retrieval.
Documents completion of these tasks.
Maintains patient lists and correct status in Bedboard.
Enters pending discharges and transfers in the Bedboard system.
Completes dismissed patient entry in a timely manner when patient has left the unit.
Places selected rooms on hold as directed by Charge RN or Unit Director.
Essential Functions II
Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
