Job Title: Chemical Systems Engineer

Location: Coralville, IA

Purpose statement:

The Chemical Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, development and validation of high performance chemical mixing and distribution systems to support custom manufacturing of IDT’s innovative biology products.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, design, implements the successful commissioning of chemical process systems; oversees all aspects of the process system lifecycle, continuously assessing safety, performance and reliability and overseeing the decommissioning of end of life process systems.

  • Works as a project team member to develop and document process and design requirements and system technical construction files.

  • Reviews and analyzes materials, design specifications, process performance models, assembly specifications and secondary processes for new and existing products to reduce manufacturing time and costs.

  • Manages assigned projects and project teams from conception through production and maintenance phases. Promotes effective communication between team members and product customers.

  • Applies process safety practices to system designs and continuously reviews and revises operational and process control risk assessments.

  • Applies technical experience and expertise to problem solving throughout process system lifecycle.

  • Mentors and supports fellow engineers in good process design and construction practices.

  • Provides detailed system design and documentation according to IDT standards.

  • Develops detailed design and performance requirements; verifies process systems will meet these requirements.

  • Writes accurate proposals, budgets, schedules and ongoing status reports for assigned projects.

  • Conducts and participates in periodic project reviews to report project progress and technical developments. Identifies and mitigates technical risks.

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • BS degree in chemical engineering or other related engineering field required

  • Applied knowledge of P&ID drawings required

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of applied engineering experience (with a proven track record of successful projects) required; ten years preferred

  • Proficient with CAD software and other modern engineering design software applications required

  • Working knowledge of relevant NFPA, OSHA, IFC, EPA preferred

  • Adept with Microsoft Office applications; MS word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio required

  • PLC Programming skills preferred

Visual Acuity:

  • Work requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Ability to read pertinent printed material and distinguish colors.

  • Ability to accurately read measurements on equipment.

  • Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
