MercyOne is seeking a part-time communications intern to join our team to advance our Mission of transforming the health of our communities. The communications intern will provide support to a passionate team of communications colleagues on key projects and create content across channels and measure success.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with the goal to grow, takes initiative and dives deep into details. This position can be based anywhere in Iowa with the main support structure based in Clive, Iowa.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism or a related field

  • Support cross-channel communications plans by developing engaging content for use in traditional media, social media, digital communications, email, events, presentations, collateral, support materials, public relations, internal communications and more

  • Provide support to communications team on projects including writing, research, interviewing and performance monitoring

  • Own the development of a communications enhancement proposal including the business case, strategy and implementation planning

  • Receive extensive exposure to various health care roles within marketing and communications, human resources, finance, advocacy, legal and more including career shadow opportunities

  • Measure the effectiveness of messaging, channels and practices.

  • Continuously ideate and innovate

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to think and communicate clearly, formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues, and create a concise and well-written narrative

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills, including rewriting, optimizing, and editing content

  • Ability to work with a team of cross-functional experts in multiple locations

  • Outstanding interpersonal, project management and organizational skills

  • Strong technology base including Microsoft Office products, social media management and other content management platforms

  • A collaborative, motivated attitude
