Responsibilities

Job Summary:

This position leads and/or participates in strategic and operational projects that assist MercyOne, and its affiliate organizations, in furthering its Strategic Plan and achieving its Vision and Key Result Area performance targets. The position reports to theVP of Clinical and Operational Integration & Transformation and works with many departments including Data Analytics, Performance Excellence, Finance, Communications, the Medical Group and clinical services, as well as with major service lines. This position uses internal and external data to assist the organization in understanding its challenges and opportunities. The position supports multidisciplinary, cross-state teams for the development, approval and implementation of major strategic and operational initiatives. The position leads activities related to planning, strategy, operations and business development, andleads activities to identify and pursue organizational growth opportunities, in collaboration with MercyOne leaders.

This position collaborates with the MercyOne team to create, review, and position capital projects that are essential to the ministries' operating performance. Develops multiple system plans which help define and prioritize which markets are in need of investments or conversely which markets need to be repositioned/divested in order to strengthen MercyOne’s performance and position us for future success. This is accomplished through researching, identifying, pulling, collecting, and organizing data into meaningful narratives that can be easily interpreted and acted upon by senior leadership. This position contributes to market-level planning support particularly for those that lack local planning resources. The Senior Business Development and Integration Analyst provides models, tool kits, strategic overviews, education, and thought leadership to ensure consistent high quality work throughout each ministry, regardless of variation in the local skill sets. Prepares key inputs and deliverables to achieve MercyOne’s financial, mission-oriented, and system goals. The Senior Business Development and Integration Analyst is often accountable for ensuring connection and collaboration throughout the organization by partnering and, in many cases, leading multi-functional workgroups. Manages multiple external relationships with essential system-wide planning resource vendors, consultants, health departments, and other community agencies.

Essential Position Expectations:

  • Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the mission, vision, values and cultural beliefs of MercyOne in behaviors, practices and decisions.

  • Supports departmental leadership in review of MercyOne strategic plans and the development of long range financial plans, budgets, and business plans.

  • Provide project management leadership in planning, managing and providing support as needed to the Operational Management Team to ensure bi-monthly meeting agendas are prepared, organized and productive for the OMT participants, according to the charter and ground rules.

  • Assists in the establishment of operational performance measurements and the monitoring of trends in key performance indicators to evaluate efficiency, effectiveness, cost, etc., using available information systems data.

  • Provides project management for select system and departmental strategic and operational initiatives and special projects, often acting as the lead for multi-functional work groups around new initiatives.

  • Serves as a key system office planning contact with the markets as they develop capital project requests, budgets and long range financial plans. This may include working as a conduit between the ministry and external consultants on volume modeling to better position a project.

  • Researches, identifies, pulls, collects, and organizes data into comprehensive strategic overview documents used by senior leaders throughout the organization to have a better understanding of our markets for major capital investment and/or strategic decisions.

  • Conduct and coordinate service line, market, operational and other related research to support strategic and business planning activities.

  • Interpret, evaluate and organize research data and develop integrated business analyses and projections for incorporation into strategic decision-making.

  • Assist leadership in understanding and communicating the financial and operational impact of proposed plans.

  • Assists with facilitation of strategic planning processes for Mercy, affiliate organizations, Boards, and service lines.

  • Develops assessments of MercyOne system and market strategic positioning and environmental assessment to complete competitive market analyses and portfolios. Maintains strong relationships with markets and data analysts to ensure alignment on assessments, service area definitions, market shares, data availability, and other planning initiatives.

  • Develop thorough planning processes that ensure participation and input from key stakeholders, and support from key decision makers both internally and in the community.

  • Applies understanding of data to identify significant findings and make recommendations for improvements. Utilizes ability to translate complex analyses, research methods and findings into communications to a variety of audiences through written and verbal reports. Applies excellent writing and presentation skills. Presents materials as requested.

  • Provides data analysis and reporting that assists the MercyOne team in the development of strategic and business plans, marketing strategy development, medical staff development and strategic financial analyses.

  • Manages relationships with Trinity Health and CommonSpirit Health IT contacts and software vendors in order to maintain and update departmental databases, tools and other planning resources related to decision support and planning studies.

  • Reviews and vets new strategy and growth tools and models offered by vendors. Coordinates vendor demonstrations, trainings, and facilitates feedback sessions on vendors for colleagues at the MercyOne System Office and markets. Hosts trainings and support to users on strategic planning software, analytical tools, and databases.

  • Develops white papers based on operational and strategical best practice research.

  • Performs other duties in support of departmental objectives and initiatives, as assigned.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws/regulations including HIPAA compliance, Certificate of Need regulations, the MercyOne Compliance Program and Code of Conduct; as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess a strong knowledge of strategic planning, business operations and analysis as normally obtained through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Health Administration or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in business or health administration in a planning or analysis role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in Business or Health Administration or related field is strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with data, including analysis, interpretation and presentation of data, and use of large, complex databases.

  • In-depth experience using data-oriented applications such as Goggle, Excel and Access. Must be proficient creating charts and graphics in Excel, and in integrating material from different sources into a single document.

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills. Must be proficient in Word and PowerPoint

  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal day-to-day direction.

  • Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership, matrix environment.

  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring as well as the ability to inspire and to motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of MercyOne.
