Alliant Energy is looking for a Strategic Project Manager II to join our Strategic Projects team managing Information Technology (IT) Projects!

We are seeking an individual who are driven, accountable, and a critical problem solver with experience managing medium to large sized Technology (IT) software-projects. Experience with Software Implementation projects using the Waterfall Methodology is needed. The ideal candidate will also have an IT background outside of Project Management. Beside leading the technical aspects of projects, the ideal candidate needs to have a high level of ownership and accountability and be invested in learning more about the key business and technical functions for every IT Technology project they manage.

Successful Project Management is more than driving tasks. It is about helping turn a vision into a reality. That means rolling up one’s sleeves to build and lead a plan; identify and minimize risks and work through issues as they arise. As the Project Manager you will be responsible for helping ensure successful execution of the project while working through potential blockers to this success.

This position offers a blend of working from home, and in the Madison, WI or Cedar Rapids, IA office. The successful candidate must reside in either Iowa or Wisconsin.

In this role you will.

  • Understand and apply the Alliant Energy project management methodologies and processes (based on PMI Standards) for project delivery to achieve scope, schedule and cost objectives while effectively managing risks that have the potential to affect project deliverables. May also provide support for maintenance and improvement of PMO tools, templates, and processes.

  • Determine specific business needs and deliverables of a project, and using project management tools, establishes and manages the costs, resources, performance measurements, timeline, and project deliverables required to complete the project and meet the expected project outcome. May be responsible for performing a cost/benefit analysis of the project and ensuring feasibility.

  • Determine appropriate project resource and staffing skills, including figuring out level of expertise needed to complete a project while assessing strategies that can be made to reduce the overall project risk factor.

  • Manage applicable project contracts in conjunction with sourcing personnel. Prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs), evaluates responses, participates in negotiations, interprets contract language, and handles finances. Ensures that the work is completed to specifications and is on schedule as specified in the contract.

  • Responsible for development and execution of communication and customer management plans related to projects, including the development, and reporting of project status, risks and progress to partners in an agreed to format, frequency, material content, and audience of the communications.

  • Ensure training needs are met for project team members and users of project.

  • Upon completion of projects, ensures operational teams are properly trained, work orders pertaining to the project are closed, all related finance charges are handled, team members are reassigned, documentation is in order, and a smooth transition of deliverables occurs.

  • Understands and applies organizational change management methodology within the context of project management.

  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience in project management managing medium to large Technology (IT) software projects.

  • Certification Achievement of a PMP or ability to be certified within three years of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in project management, information technology, engineering, or related area.

  • Certification Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

  • Detail oriented and strong problem solver who takes ownership of their projects and related issues and has a high degree of accountability.

  • Experience with Software Implementation projects using the Waterfall Methodology.

  • IT background/experience outside of Project Management is desired.

  • Experience with Microsoft Project is desired.
