Position overview

The Mission Systems Summer Engineering Project Program is our Elite Summer Program that has been around since 1995. This program aligns projects from various directorates that support research & partnerships on campus. During the summer each project is aligned with a technical mentor & a defined project plan & milestone.

This project will empower a team of students to develop a new Filter Engine for our Cross Domain Solution (CDS) using the Rust programming language. The student team will be guided by mentors who are Subject Matter Experts in Filter Engine and Software Engineering technologies.

Mission Systems Communications Products Engineering Team is looking for a talented individual who has passion to perform software tool development and assist full-time engineers with more efficient methods to configure Tactical Targeting Network Technology Datalinks applications. This will be a standalone tool that initially performs basic syntax error and range checking of configurable parameters before these files are loaded onto the Datalinks platform. This tool has the opportunity to expand into a GUI where the user can enter values for various configuration items.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Open to new ideas and invention

  • Think differently to come up with solutions that will aid full-time engineers to quickly and efficiently prepare Datalinks application configuration files before being loaded onto the target platform

  • Work with the software team and mentors to build a standalone tool and following department software development guidelines.

Good to have:

  • Understanding of software development practices and file manipulation (input/output, syntax and range checking of file contents)

  • Knowledge of Python and familiar with JSON-formatted text file

  • Experienced in + C++ and other high level programming languages

  • GUI development

    Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 of above

  • Students should be at junior or senior status by summer 2022
