Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design, plan, and execute ethanol fermentation experiments at multiple scales (shake-flask and intermediate/pilot) to evaluate and optimize yeast and enzyme product performance and aid in scale-up

  • Analyze and interpret lab- and commercial-scale fermentation data to evaluate and optimize performance

  • Assist in the technical development of enzyme products throughout the commercialization process: formulation and stability, application performance evaluation, marketing material generation, commercial-scale trialing, and post-launch support

  • Assist in the technical development of yeast products starting with application performance evaluation

  • Support Sales and Technical Service efforts through routine analysis of customer samples, lab- and pilot-scale simulations of customer processes, method development, and onsite and remote technical support

  • Responsibilities will be focused on ethanol fermentation and will include related work on liquefaction and carbohydrate processing applications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical or Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation Science, Microbiology, or a related field

  • Relevant academic lab experience and 3+ years of relevant industry experience

  • Experience with fermentation at multiple scales (flask, intermediate/pilot, or commercial) and scale-up

  • Experience with analytical techniques relevant for monitoring ethanol fermentations

  • In-depth understanding of fermentation fundamentals and kinetics

  • Experience with industrially-relevant yeast strains and ethanol fermentation is preferred

  • Experience with enzymes and biochemical assays is preferred

  • Desire to work in a multidisciplinary team and capability to work independently

  • Self-starter with good organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

  • Willingness to travel up to 20%, including to customer commercial production sites
