This position is primarily responsible for the design, development and support of components and systems for packaging machines. Key actions include product design, assistance with assembly and factory testing, field testing, troubleshooting field problems, answering questions for parts manufacturers (whether internal or external) and interfacing with vendors. The ultimate goal is the development and support of packaging machines. This position must also support Purchasing with outside vendor management and purchase authorizations. This position must have excellent communication skills to be able to communicate information to customers. Other services performed by this position include nonconformance resolution, cost reduction, product enhancement and pre-sale/pre-installation customer support.
Designs, develops, and documents complete sections of packaging machines.
Conducts testing of components, systems, and machines at facility and at customer sites. This includes conducting lab tests on filling systems to optimize performance.
Interfaces with vendors to specify purchased parts and coordinate vendor testing of their components to simulate how they will be used in packaging equipment application. Also coordinates with vendors to develop new, specialized components or systems that will be specifically designed for use on filling machines.
Provides guidance to assembly and test personnel on how new designs fit and function.
Provide technical support to field service personnel and customers.
Manage all aspect of the assigned product line, which include Sold order ownership/processing, resolution of all field issues, processing of all non-conformances, monitoring of warranty and profitability.
Meeting project specifications, timelines, and budgets.
Occasionally responsible for directing a design technician on documentation of a new design (creating drawings, bills of material, etc).
B.S. Mechanical Engineering and 3-5 years of related experience
The application and knowledge of engineering development tools such as CAD software, use of standard techniques, engineering procedures, and criteria for carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks
Must be able to conduct engineering tests in a factory/lab setting, as well as at customer plants
Must be able to interact effectively with people at all levels, both internal and external to Evergreen Packaging Equipment, including vendors and customers.
Solid understanding of engineering practices; not only from a technical standpoint, but also from a documentation stand point.
Ability to effectively manage people in an ever-changing, sometime high pressure work environment.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to delegate tasks and follow-up.
Knowledge of product line and experience in machine mechanism due to our equipment being mechanically intense.
Good organization and time management skills.
Ability to work with minimum supervision with accurate output.
Knowledge of competition & regulatory requirements.
Ability to travel up to 25% including possible Internationally
