Job Description

Court Reporter - Official Certified Shorthand Reporter

The Sixth Judicial District of the Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking candidates for Court Reporter openings.

Responsibilities:

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Captures court testimony and proceedings with stenography machine.

  • Reads back court testimony and proceedings upon request.

  • Prepares transcripts, performs general office work.

  • Marks and records exhibits during court proceedings.

  • Performs related work as determined by Judge, Chief Judge or designee.

  • Electronic document filing required in all counties within the District.

  • May be required to work for any Judicial Officer in the District per operational needs.

  • May require travel

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from high school (GED); graduation from a school of court reporting with courses

including legal and medical terminology, English, typing and law.

Must be certified as a court reporter by the Iowa Board of Shorthand Reporters or become

certified within one (1) year of hire.
