Alliant Energy Attorney (may be filled up to Senior Attorney level) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
As part of a team, develops and implements strategies to enable successful filings before state and federal regulatory agencies, such as rate reviews and construction dockets.
Applies a broad knowledge of policy and legal principles and practices to lead the successful completion of regulatory projects.
Represents the company before regulatory agencies. Drafts applications, briefs, and other regulatory filings. Monitors developments that may affect a project and recommends the appropriate course of action.
Works with business units to facilitate compliance with federal and state regulations.
Serves as a subject matter expert in at least one area of law. Continues to expand fundamental knowledge in own discipline and broaden skills and knowledge about industry and Company.
Provides analysis of legislative, regulatory and judicial developments within area of responsibility, which might affect the organization.
Provides legal support to business units on various matters, including reviewing and drafting contracts and other legal documents, and carries out assignments with moderate independence.
Oversees the functional work assigned to paralegals and/or legal interns.
Actively participates in the legal team, including assisting other attorneys on a wide variety of legal projects. Identifies own information that may be useful to others and shares it promptly. Questions the way things are done currently, and looks for ways to improve own efficiency. Gives feedback to encourage and support others.

Alliant Energy has an exciting opportunity for an attorney for our Legal Department. This position will focus on regulatory activities both in Iowa and Wisconsin, including advocacy before the Iowa Utilities Board and other regulatory agencies. The role requires direct engagement with business units and project teams to develop and implement successful regulatory strategies. This challenging role provides opportunities to enhance your legal experience and gain an understanding of Alliant Energy’s operations, while providing legal support for initiatives throughout the company.
This position will be located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and filled at the Attorney or Senior Attorney level dependent upon candidate qualifications. Travel will be required and the amount of travel will be impacted by the location of the regulatory work.

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school, college, or university and two years of related experience after receiving degree
Attorney position requires two years of experience following obtaining the JD degree
Senior Attorney position requires five years of related experience in a wide range of legal issues.
Preferred candidates will have:
Knowledge of the utility industry, including renewables
Knowledge of regulatory oversight, including practice before utility regulatory agencies
Experience with commercial negotiations and contract drafting
Ability to solve problems of moderate scope and complexity usually involving limited responsibility.
Demonstrates excellent legal research skills.
Proven ability to plan and carry out responsibility with minimum direction.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
Ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment.
