Siemens Application Engineer - Circuit Protection in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Siemens Smart Infrastructures (SI) is looking for an Application Engineer. The Application Engineer will support product management, engineering, business development, sales, and other internal customers, as well as external pre-sale technical and solutions support, focusing on Molded Case Circuit Breakers and Safety Switches for the Electrical Products Business Unit.

SI EP functions to drive value into market; the candidate must have demonstrated ability to drive cooperation and integration with local and international product lifecycle management (PLM) teams to ensure product roadmaps are aligned with overall market needs and encompass future growth opportunities. The capability to rationalize, integrate, and market multiple products with multiple platforms across business segments is key.
The primary focus will be on providing complex technical application assistance directly to business development team, external sales team, external technical support, field service technicians, third-party integrators, distributers/resellers, and end-users with the intent of providing the best technical and economic solutions to the market with the end goal of growing Siemens market share. In addition, to develop repeatable solutions/applications and guides for focus markets.
Guides/organizes cross functional activities related to training, documentation, tools, sales, marketing, service, logistics/manufacturing. Helps identify technical marketing requirements for the development of new products or enhancing existing products or product lines. Helps support the development of business plans and product introduction plans on a regional basis. Provide regional technical input to global product specifications (requirement/feature specs).
A successful candidate will have knowledge of general business functions, including product marketing, engineering, manufacturing, finance, and global business issues. Some key traits are:

Ability to create detailed business plans in support of new product development or product enhancement activities.
Candidate will be expected to have experience with Circuit Protection and applications. The candidate must be familiar with industry standards (UL, NEMA, NFPA, etc.), technological trends, market requirements, and customer requirements in the North American markets. The AE will support and influence Standards with Professional Workgroup Affiliations (IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, NFPA, …).

What you will need:
Bachelor’s Degree – Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred
6 plus years of electrical knowledge; technical understanding/aptitude for circuit protection products.
Understanding of NEMA and UL product standards.
Self-motivated and demonstrated desire and ability to influence others for increased business generation.
Technical Support experience. Prior customer facing roles on the sales or field support is a plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 10%.
What will set you ahead of the pack:
Knowledge of the electrical distribution sales channel is a plus.
Design experience with power distribution is a plus.
