JOB GOAL:

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Under supervision, the Accountant - Grants will be responsible for the accounting, budget management, document management and financial reporting of grants awarded to the College. The position assists with a portfolio of Federal, State of Iowa, and private grants along with State of Iowa Tax Credit programs. The position will provide financial oversight for their assigned programs and will work in conjunction with Program Managers and Grantors to ensure timely and accurate reporting and billing for grant awards and compliance with applicable regulations. Typical hours for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide post award financial administration of grants awards.

  • Develop working knowledge and assist in maintaining ongoing compliance with applicable college, state, and federal policies and regulations (including OMB circulars and grant regulations), while maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards.

  • Consult with internal Program Managers on post award financial management including adherence to applicable regulations, financial performance reviews, financial reporting, budget analysis and management, and cost share requirements.

  • Review and approve expenditures related to grant programs ensuring alignment with federal cost principles.

  • Ensure compliance with federal time and effort reporting.

  • Assist in oversight of State of Iowa programs ensuring alignment with tax codes and program regulations.

  • Provide regular communications with external tax credit program participants regarding financial status of project(s).

  • Analyze department work to develop and document efficient procedures.

  • Provide assistance with annual audits of the college and related entities.

  • Ensure all processes within area of responsibility have current documentation.

  • Provide input related to the development of college accounting policies and procedures.

  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Collaborates with other grants accounting staff members related to ongoing cross training and compliance updates.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and perform duties in relation to the timelines, state and federal regulations, reporting requirements, and college policies related to the duties assigned.

  • Gain knowledge of grant regulations and applicable Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars and financial and accounting principles and procedures.

  • Possess verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact at all levels within, and external to the college.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in accounting or related field

  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to provide a high level of customer service and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.

  • Ability to manage numerous simultaneous projects.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel.

  • Ability to recognize areas of process improvement and assist in implementing new processes and procedures.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field

  • Experience in financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
