JOB TITLE Athletic Coach REPORTS TO Activities Director/ Head Coach QUALIFICATIONSValid Iowa Coaching AuthorizationKnowledge of technical aspects of the assigned sportWillingness to continue to learn and examine new ideasCoaching experience in the assigned sport (preferred)Mandatory Reporter certificationExhibits thorough knowledge of all school, conference and Iowa Athletic Union policiesMaintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation within the athletic program and school communityObserves students during practice to detect and correct mistakesResponsible for following proper procedures for the purchase of equipment and materials necessary for program operationMaintains inventory of uniforms/equipmentConducts fund raising activities necessary to support the operation of the organizationPlan and conduct practices for assigned teamCommunicates and works with athletic trainerAttends all required meetings and submits required paperwork in a timely manner.Responsible for the travel arrangements and supervisionOrganizes and prepares students for competitionConfers with students, parents and staff to resolve student issuesEnforces District code of conductFollows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.Other activities as may be designated by building principals or Activity Director to provide optimal program operationDisplay sportsmanship towards opponents, officials, parents and athletesCoordinate and direct all levels of the program by conducting coaches’ meetings and developing proceduresCollaborates with Activities Director for schedulingSchedules pre-season meetings with students, parents and assistant coachesParticipates in budget process with Activities DirectorMaintains good public relations with media, Booster Club and volunteersEstablishes lettering criteriaDevelops procedures for keeping parents and athletes informedEstablishes a policy with parents and players to address issues or concernsUpdates Activities Director frequently about any issues, concerns or highlightsPlan, organize and conduct a post-season awards banquet, in-season parent night and outreach methods to encourage student body attendance at gamesEvaluate assistant coaches in collaboration with the Activities DirectorWage and work year to be established by AdministrationEmployment per Board Policies and Administrative Rules and regulationsMaintain emotional control under stressFrequent district and occasional statewide travelProlonged and irregular hoursAbility to work with interruptionsCapable of standing/walking for periods up to 2 to 3 hoursTobacco and substance free environmentMust provide certification of good health prior to employmentPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with board policyEvaluation is the responsibility of the Activities Director with Head Coach when applicableThe statements in this job description are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
