Summary:

Provide emergency services to Des Moines County residents and surrounding areas. This involves emergency food services, emergency rent, clothing, and utilities. To provide case management and referrals to clients. To meet human needs in the Burlington area without discrimination.

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide a welcoming environment to all who visit The Salvation Army.

  • Manage the flow of communication and information into the Corps office to include greeting visitors, answering and returning phone calls and/or messages, and directing visitors/donors.

  • Communicate services to clients, as well as general public and community partners.

  • Provide case management services to clients to include intake material for accuracy, assessing client needs, act as liaison to community resources and provide referrals to appropriate agencies.

  • Enter client data into Salvation Army approved data base.

  • Assist Corps Officer(s) on all Pathway of Hope cases as assigned.

  • Provide services as appropriate and based on availability and eligibility.

  • Network with agency partners to provide appropriate referral for services to clients.

  • Assist in collecting data and other information to evaluate program impact.

  • Report and collaborate with Corps Officer(s). Record, track and submit statistical information as scheduled to maintain compliance.

  • Maintain all client records ethically and confidentially.

  • Work with the Business Administrator with purchasing and reporting needs for all food orders.

  • Maintain and organize daily donations to the food pantry and preparation of food boxes.

  • Collaborate with team members on Fresh Food Table Giveaway.

  • Attend conferences, seminars and staff meetings as directed.

  • Maintain positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices.

  • Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officer(s).

Part-Time (28 Hours), Non-exempt

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Candidates must have a passion for fulfilling the mission of The Salvation Army and must be articulate in presenting the same to others.

Candidates must successfully pass the pre-employment background inquiry and annual motor vehicle check with a valid driver’s license.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in the human service area or significant experience will be considered in lieu of.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of progressive years of case management and client support in the social services profession or related educational experiences.

  • Knowledge of and/or experience in community outreach, human services and community improvement. Ability to collaborate on complex social issues within families and communities.

  • Must have an interest and ability to work with people and clients of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner.

  • Capacity to teach adults and families.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and work as a cooperative team member.

  • Demonstrated awareness of budget resources and cost control, as well as planning and administering social service budgets.

  • Outgoing personality with good communication skills and ability to work with diverse cultures are necessary.

Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

This Position is required to do basic business and office work. To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the individual is regularly required to talk and listen, stand, walk, sit and use hands. Individual must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. The use of Office and Computer Equipment is necessary. Vision abilities will require close vision. Work may be performed indoors and occasionally require outdoors to attend meetings. There is low to moderate noise level for this position.
