Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).Demonstrated experience in occupational safety and health programs for a large facility with makerspace environments, ranging from a textiles laboratory to wood & metal fabrication to a glassblowing studio to engineering competition teams.Technical training covering OSHA, EPA, NFPA or related workplace regulations, guidelines and standards. Experience developing and administering safety training. Experience with spreadsheets and relational databases. Experience working at a college, university or research institution.Demonstrated experience applying safety programs for the workplace.

Job Description:

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is seeking candidates for a full-time position assigned to work within the Iowa State University Student Innovation Center (SICTR), with responsibility for implementation of university occupational safety and health programs in the facility. This will be accomplished through interactions with ISU students, faculty and staff; administration of safe facility use practices, implementing evidence-based and engaging training programs; and managing inspection data and safety surveys. This position will include direct interaction with the various facility makerspaces, fabrication studios, and other occupied spaces within the Student Innovation Center. The position will be responsible for establishing facility use safety guidelines that will include the development and administration of a flexible use/access control plan and define training competency requirements for makerspace use. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and administer facility-specific safety training, emergency preparedness mechanisms, and perform facility safety inspections, hazard assessments, accident investigations and regulatory compliance audits. This position will use monitoring and analytical data to identify extent of workplace exposures, recommend engineering and work practice controls to minimize and/or eliminate potential safety and health hazards, and periodically evaluate user compliance with university and facility safety policies. Provide assistance with occupational safety aspects of facility operation and maintenance, including testing of building safety system function (i.e., alarms systems, guards, access control, PPE, etc.). The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of clients. Outstanding organizational skills and strong attention to detail will be essential for success. The candidate will also possess the ability to routinely use personal computers along with a variety of software to maintain hazardous materials information and related reports.
