Mainstream Living Inc Nurse- LPN or RN in Ames, Iowa


Mainstream Living, Inc. provides services and supports in community settings to persons with intellectual disabilities and brain injuries. This position provides direct support to persons served. All staff are expected to promote a safe and welcoming environment that inspires hope and supports individuals with their individual goals and aspirations.


Education: Completion of the appropriate course work and testing to obtain and maintain licensure (RN/LPN) in the State of Iowa and as required by other regulatory bodies.

Experience: Human Service Experience is preferred but not required.

Driving: This position requires possession of valid Driver’s License, legal driving privileges and ability in the State of Iowa and qualification with Mainstream Living’s underwriter as an insurable driver. Exception to this may be made for select shifts, e.g., overnight shifts.

Computer: Basic data entry skills required.

Post hire: Must demonstrate competencies to complete internal training, including training to pass medication.


This position is considered an essential health care worker position and in the event of an emergency may be required to work one-on-one with members to ensure their safety.

Persons Served:

Assist in identifying the individual’s skills, needs and interests.

Incorporate individual service plan into daily routine by providing daily support and supervision to the individual according their established support and individualized goals.

Follow medication policies and procedures to include: administration, record keeping, identification of medication, purpose and adverse reactions, and self-administration of medication.

Link individuals to other support services as needed.

Maintains a clean working environment (vehicles, individual housing, etc.).

Additional Duties:

Accurate and timely documentation of daily progress notes.

Keep supervisor informed of critical and non-routine events. Communication is constructive, effective and timely.

Respectfully interact and communicate with persons receiving services in a manner appropriate to each individual.

Communicate positively and respectfully with co-workers, supervisors, employers, professionals, parents, guardians, visitors, etc. while maintaining confidentiality.

Follow health and safety practices per agency policies including participation in emergency procedures, drills, proper infection control, accident/injury prevention, etc.

Adhere to established agency policies and procedures.

Timely completion of paperwork.

Operates Agency vehicles and provides transportation in a safe manner, following all agency policies.
