The Office of Design is looking to hire an Engineering Technician Senior that will be part of a team designing highway improvement projects and construction plans that will be used to enhance the state and national transportation systems in Iowa. This position is the most advanced level of highway designer and the selected individual will be an essential member of a highway design team developing innovative transportation improvement projects. This position is expected to have an advanced understanding of the principals of highway design. Requirement: Have and maintain a minimum of Class C Driver's License.
Shift: Days, Monday through Friday.
Participates on a team that makes decisions that effectively balance mobility, environmental impacts, property impacts, cost and long term maintenance.
Produces highway project plans that are consistent with Iowa DOT design guidance.
Calculates roadway geometric features including vertical and horizontal highway alignments.
Designs intersections, drainage systems and traffic control plans.
Develops 3-dimensional computer models of the proposed roadway.
Calculates material quantities that will be needed to build the proposed roadway project.
Prepares final details needed to clearly communicate the intention of plans to a road contractor.
Uses advanced computer applications and processes in all aspects of the photogrammetric process.
Ability to successfully utilize advanced software applications.
Analyzes challenges, defines successful solution alternatives and proactively solves problems.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and experience equal to five years of full-time work in engineering survey, construction inspection, materials inspection or materials testing;
any equivalent combination of education and experience substituting qualifying experience for the education on the basis of one year of experience for thirty semester hours of education;
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the experience equal to one year of full-time work as a Construction Technician Senior or four years of full-time work as a Construction Technician.
