Job Description:

The Business Career Services office in the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University is now accepting applications for a Career Services Specialist II. Business Career Services is one of seven college-based career services offices on the Iowa State University campus and reports to the academic unit. The Ivy College of Business is home to approximately 4,300 undergraduate students, offering 14 undergraduate majors. The mission of Business Career Services is: “To develop business professionals prepared for lifelong career success by providing access to customized coaching, competency focused teaching, experience-based learning and connectivity with industry.”

This position is responsible for advising students, administrators, faculty, staff, and alumni on issues and trends related to employment; assisting in the marketing of office services (and Business students) to encourage employers to recruit on campus, and managing department activities/events delivering reports and data critical to the mission. The incumbent will teach several sections of BUS AD 203 (Professional Development in Business).

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills. Strength in public speaking is necessary. The candidate will be capable of independent judgment, taking initiative, and working collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals. Must be professional, dependable, and value continuous improvement/lifelong learning.

Career Coordinator Duties

  • Advise current undergraduate students, alumni, and faculty in career planning and decision making, career information, and the internship and full-time job search by providing comprehensive career search strategies utilizing multiple tools and technologies and training on usage of customer relationship database/recruiting system

  • Market opportunities to qualified candidates

  • Plan and lead career-related presentations on and off campus

  • Identify solutions to job-seeking situations of varying complexity

  • Meet with prospective students/families to discuss career aspects of Ivy College of Business

Marketing/Business Development Duties

  • Assist in the marketing of career services programs and activities to current and potential employers of full-time and intern/co-op candidates

  • Work with the Director of ISU Business Career Services to identify organizations and industries for the growth of the recruitment program

  • Meet with potential employers both on and off campus to develop relationships with recruiting partners

  • Provide solutions to employers in the areas of successful recruiting programming and methods to identify Ivy College of Business talent

Instructional Duties

  • Instruct BUS AD 203 (Careers in Business & Professional Employment Preparation)

  • Instruction required, graded Careers course providing support to the accreditation of the Ivy College of Business students by teaching professional development concepts and measuring outcomes

Program Management/Development Duties

  • Manage career-related events to include company speakers, mock interviews, and other employer engagement activities

  • Serve as career liaison to discipline-specific organizations

  • Present to discipline-specific student clubs/organizations, clubs, and associations on topics related to professionalism, job/internship seeking, and other career-related subjects

Level Guidelines

  • Intermediate-level position with solid professional and technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals

  • Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, challenging, and varied problems and issues

  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

  • Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests

  • May provide training and direction to lower-level staff

  • May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity

  • Provides guidance to students
