Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach to assist the Head Coach with all phases of the NCAA Division I women’s tennis program including planning practice sessions and competitive coaching situations; identifying and successfully recruiting academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes; effectively teaching, mentoring and coaching to develop well-rounded student-athletes; and ensuring academic progress and graduation. The Assistant Coach will also perform administrative duties as assigned, with a commitment to adhering to University, Big 12 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, and regulations. Will contribute to and enhance a competitive athletic experience. Will establish and maintain an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes. Will establish and maintain effective interactions with the students, colleagues, university community, alumni, media and the public.

This position requires an excellent work ethic along with strong motivational, teaching/coaching and communication skills. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Requires the ability to travel extensively including overnight stays for recruiting and competitions.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree. Experience coaching or competing in tennis at a highly competitive level.

Preferred Education and Experience

NCAA Division I tennis experience as athlete and/or coach. Experience recruiting skilled student-athletes including international recruiting. Experience instructing female tennis athletes.

This position is subject to compliance with the NCAA’s IAWP legislation which defines an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete (IAWP) as any person who maintains (or directs others to maintain) contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians, or coaches at any point during the prospective student-athlete’s participation in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and/or football and whose contact is directly or indirectly related to either the prospective student-athlete’s athletic skills and abilities or the prospective student-athlete’s recruitment by or enrollment in an NCAA institution. This definition includes, but is not limited to, parents, legal guardians, handlers, personal trainers and coaches. A violation occurs if an IAWP is employed by the institution and, at the time of employment, a student-athlete who enrolled at the institution in the previous two years (and remains enrolled at the institution) was a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an IAWP. A violation also occurs if an IAWP is employed and, within two years after such employment, a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete enrolls as a full-time student in a regular academic term at the institution.
