Job Title: Substitute Secretary Qualifications: Required:
  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Ability to perform basic bookkeeping skills, mathematical skills, and operate standard office equipment.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize and function under pressure and deadlines.

  • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.

    Desired:

  • Associates Degree in business or education related field.

  • Previous supervisory experience.

    Reports to: Building Principal or Department Director Job Goal:The performance responsibilities as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the building assigned. Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist in distribution of office mail.

  • Answer phone calls and emails from students and/or parents regarding food service online payments and/or other account balances.

  • Order and bill supplies if requested.

  • May sell tickets for activities in auditorium and for assemblies.

  • Process paperwork for students eligible for free and reduced applications.

  • May be required to record Medicaid billing information at the direction of the director of special education.

  • Maintain confidentiality on sensitive information.

  • Other duties as assigned

    Physical Demands:

  • Must be capable of sitting throughout the work day.

  • Must present appropriate appearance and personal cleanliness suited to working in close proximity to students and adults.

  • Must be able to work with interruptions during a work shift.

  • Must be capable of working with students with different personalities, capabilities, and physical and mental limitations.

  • Must be capable of working in a noisy environment.

  • May be required to stand occasionally throughout the day or during school events.

  • Must be capable occasionally of lifting up to 50 pounds to waist level.

  • Must be capable occasionally of carrying 25 pounds at waist level for a distance of 100 feet.

    Note: The physical demands described above represent real life tasks an employee may need to perform as part of the essential functions of this job. While the frequency may be low, the above stated physical demands may be required during the course of a daily work shift. Tasks that have physical demands that exceed the above stated limits should only be performed with sufficient manpower or material handling equipment.
